(BamHI and BglII sites destroyed in cloning.). Restriction digests of the clone give the following sizes (kb): XbaI/PstI--2.75, 1.38; XbaI--4.0; PstI--4.0; EcoRI--3.5, 0.56; HindIII--3.6, 0.34. The 5' EcoRI fragment of the clone detects genomic EcoRI fragments of 6.8 kb, 2.1 kb, and 0.9 kb in the human; 5.5 kb in the hamster; and 6.6 kb in the mouse. It also detects a human genomic BamHI fragment of 25 kb and KpnI fragment of 11.9 kb. This probe is a full-length cDNA. The human and rat polypeptide precursors are 65% identical. The cell-binding sequence and a potential N-linked glycosylation site are conserved in both human and rat.
